What is the world's best snus? Just like in other fields – sodas, soccer teams, movies or chocolates – the answer will depend on who you ask. And with so many great products out there, expecting a unanimous response would surely be asking for a miracle. If the question is approached objectively however, General Kardus Fäviken 2016 would be a pretty strong contender for the title of the world's leading snus brand. Developed by Magnus Nilsson (the award-winning chef at the top Swedish restaurant Fäviken Magasinet) and Swedish Match Master Blender Lars Öberg, General Kardus Fäviken 2016 represents the best of the best in the world of snus. Using only the very best tobacco available, the two men have come up with a product that will satisfy even the pickiest consumer. At the same time, the fact that only 3000 cans have been made by Swedish Match adds a unique aura of exclusivity to the product. No wonder that its release on 1. December 2015 caused such a stir!
Great ingredients, unique expertise
As Master Blender at Scandinavia's largest snus company, it is only to be expected that Lars Öberg would know a thing or two about snus. More surprising, perhaps, is the fact that a chef was invited to take part in the project. But the decision makes a lot more sense than it may seem at first sight. Magnus Nilsson has in fact been conducting his own experiments with snus at his award-winning restaurant, eventually offering his customers his homemade snus. This combination of Nilsson's gastronomical expertise with Öberg's unparalleled knowledge of snus paved the way for this remarkable product. Moreover, the guys at Swedish Match decided early on to use only the very best tobacco available. In practice this entailed using high-quality tobacco from Guatemala, India, Argentina and the US, resulting in a unique blend of flavours and a very exceptional aroma. Not only that, but only the best parts of the tobacco leaf were used. After being infused with notes of herbs and wild berries, the snus was then stored in oak barrels, all of which has contributed to its distinctive, highly sophisticated taste. Finally, the snus was subsequently packaged in pewter (hand-made, of course) which allows it to continue maturing for weeks afterwards.
Expensive delights
It is only natural that a product of such sterling quality should come at a hefty cost, and a single can will set you back 995 Swedish SEK. Then again, this is a far cry from your run-of-the-mill snus can. Developed to mark the 150th anniversary of its classic General brand, Swedish Match were obviously determined to spare no costs in its efforts to come up with a snus worthy of the occasion. This, then, is a true luxury product, an equivalent to a Hermes bag or an iconic car like a Rolls Royce. The fact that it's only available in a strictly limited edition – what is 3000 cans, after all? – is all the more reason to try and get your hands on one before it's too late. Good luck and Godspeed!
