This guide outlines the top ZYN alternatives to give other nicotine pouches the chance to shine, including the likes of Nico, Helwit, and On!
For most people, the biggest factor in whether or not a nicotine pouch hits right is its flavor, so we’ve ordered our recommended ZYN alternatives by their taste profile.
However, we’ve also considered other factors, such as:
Mint is the OG of nicotine pouch flavors, so it’s the natural place to kickstart this article.
Nico Whip Alpine Mint Strong Slim pouches are dry, mint-flavored, and contain 8 mg each, meaning they share similarities with ZYN in the three key areas. They’re an ideal option for intermediate users.
For those who want something more potent, there’s also Nico Lash Glacier X Mint Ultra Strong Slim. True to the name, the pouches boast 12 mg of nicotine each. Unlike the fresh eucalyptus flavor of Whip Alpine, Lash Glacier has a sharper peppermint taste.
Helwit Menthol offers a refreshing menthol taste that makes a good substitute for ZYN’s many mint products, such as ZYN Cool Mint, Cool Frost, and Deep Freeze. It contains 6 mg of nicotine per pouch, which is a regular strength that falls bang in the middle of the potency spectrum. They’re also slim and lightweight.
It’s also hard to go wrong with On! Nicotine pouches. The brand offers a classic mint flavor in three strengths (3 mg, 6 mg, and 9 mg), so there’s something to match ZYN at all potency levels. The pouches are sharp yet sweet, providing a refreshing taste that isn’t too overpowering.
Spearmint has the same refreshing characteristics as peppermint, but it has a milder and sweeter taste that makes it preferable for those who want a less intense mint experience.
One option here is Übbs Spearmint Strong, which contains 9 mg of nicotine per pouch for a strong solution. Although spearmint is typically a lighter mint, these pouches have a freezing effect that’s typically associated with peppermint. Talk about the best of both worlds!
Alternatively, on! Spearmint 3 is a lighter option with just 3mg of nicotine per pouch. It’s refreshing, subtly sweet, and ideal for an everyday pouch experience.
For those who want a refreshing and enjoyable flavor that isn’t mint but also isn’t too “out-there” or divisive, citrus pouches are often a go-to.
ZYN’s citrus flavors combine elements of various citrus fruits, and there are a few other products on the market that use the same approach.
Exhibit A is Après No.10 Tangerine Spritz. Based on the popular cocktail drink of the same name, it boasts a zesty orange with moist contents, along with 4.4 mg of nicotine per pouch. There’s also a version with 8 mg per pouch for anyone seeking something stronger.
For those open to considering a nicotine-free replacement, WAKEY Citrus Blast is a strong choice. It mixes sharper, warmer, and sweeter tastes together, along with 50 mg of caffeine to provide a comparable experience to nicotine.
Coffee is one of the world’s favorite beverages, so it’s no wonder that it has become a popular ZYN flavor.
On! Coffee is one of the best alternatives thanks to its creamy, slightly sweet coffee flavor. It also comes in the form of convenient mini pouches that fit effortlessly into the mouth, and it has dry contents for a balanced release of nicotine and flavor.
We’ve provided the link to the version with 3 mg per pouch above, but On! also provides a 6 mg version for those who want something a little stronger.
Or for something a bit different, Helwit Mocha has a more chocolate-esque coffee flavor, with hints of caramel thrown in.
Switching away from ZYN doesn’t necessarily mean choosing a product that’s as close to the previous flavor as possible. Why not try something completely new?
A few much-loved brands on Snusdirect worth checking out include:
There are also plenty of exciting flavor profiles out there, from spicy choices to licorice.
Not everyone is on the lookout for ZYN alternatives due to preference alone. As Snusdirect doesn’t sell ZYN to the US (and there’s currently a ZYN shortage in the region anyway), looking for an alternative is becoming a must for many customers.
For those who aren’t in the loop, here’s a brief update on what has been going on:
Opting for a ZYN alternative doesn't have to mean choosing second best. There are still plenty of great brands and taste profiles on the market just waiting to be discovered.
Check out what Snusdirect has to offer and enjoy the journey!
]]>We’ve done our best to round up a selection with something for everyone, followed by a breakdown of the elements that give a nicotine pouch the “it” factor.
“Best” might be a strong word, but we’ve narrowed down a few products that every pouch fan should have on their radar.
In no particular order, let’s look at five of the crème de la crème.
With its perfectly balanced mint flavor, super-soft portions, and 9.5 mg of nicotine, LOOP Smooth Mint is a dream for menthol lovers. It might be from Another Snus Factory, but it’s more than just another nicotine pouch.
2. Nico Whip Alpine Mint Strong Slim
NICO is one of the most exciting up-and-coming brands on the market. This nicotine pouch contains 8 mg of nicotine per pouch, which is an ideal intermediate strength. It combines menthol and eucalyptus, which makes a welcome change from the usual peppermint. Contents are dry for a balanced release.
While this list is quite mint-centric, there are plenty of great nicotine pouches with different flavor profiles — and 77 Cola & Vanilla demonstrates this perfectly. Cola is one of the most-loved beverages worldwide, and this pouch packs that sweet flavor into pouches for an enjoyable experience. They have 10 mg of nicotine each and are made of soft materials.
We had to include a low-strength option here, and Ace Cool Mint Low fits the bill here. As well as having a 4 mg per pouch option, it uses milder, sweeter spearmint. The brand is made by the Danish manufacturer Ministry of Snus, which has a reputation for premium products and listening to what customers want. This shines through in its pouches.
5. on! Mint 6
On! is something of a staple brand on Snusdirect. While other brands often chase the “next big thing,” On! keeps its range simple by offering a few classic flavors in three strength levels — 3 mg, 6 mg, and 9 mg. But On! often comes out on top as the most popular of all, combining the most-loved flavor with a moderate strength. Is this the perfect nicotine pouch?
Since taste is so subjective, there’s always a chance that someone reading this won’t like any of the five products highlighted above.
So for any contrarians out there, we’ve included a quick guide on finding the perfect nicotine pouch by outlining the key factors to look out for.
We’ve already seen that mint leads the way as the top pouch flavor, and 2025 is unlikely to be the year that changes.
But mint isn’t what makes everyone tick, and there are plenty of other up-and-coming flavor profiles to look out for, including:
No matter how much something pleases the taste buds, it won’t quite hit the spot if it isn’t the right strength level.
Here’s what to expect:
Most nicotine pouches are a slim format since this shape slots easily into the mouth under the upper lip. But some people like mini pouches for a truly ergonomic experience, or a bigger pouch for some extra intensity.
Some people like their nicotine pouches dry for a prolonged, balanced release, while others prefer the more intense experience that moist pouches provide.
Thought we were done discussing the factors that make for a great nicotine pouch? Not quite — it’s also worth thinking about the brand.
VELO nicotine pouches are the most popular in Europe, so it would be rude not to mention them here. They provide a fantastic range of flavors, from peppermint to grapes to licorice, as well as various strength levels. There’s also a tobacco-free range called VELO Zero.
Some other honorable brand mentions include:
We update this list of the top nicotine pouches ranked every year, so all these products are fresh choices for 2025.
But for those who want an even more up-to-date reveal of Snusdirect’s top products, there’s always the option to check out our bestsellers page. This is updated frequently and displays the products most customers are buying the most.
]]>In fact, there are countless Siberia snus alternatives, including for popular lines like -80 Degrees snus or All White pouches. This guide will focus on tobacco-free nicotine pouches that offer a similar experience.
Purchasing random products in the hopes that eventually one will turn out to be the perfect Siberia replacement isn’t the best way to find a new favorite. Breaking down the characteristics that make a product so great is far more effective!
This might vary somewhat from person to person, but Siberia products are best known for their:
Users should also take care to choose a substitute with the same format as the product they’re looking to replace. Is it mini? Slim? Something else?
Icy, mouth-numbing flavors are what Siberia is best known for. This shines through in both -80 Degrees snus portions and All White nicotine pouches.
Since all minty products from Siberia have the same menthol taste, we’ve categorized our substitutes based on strength levels rather than product-by-product.
Since this is a blog post about Siberia alternatives, we figured we’d skip the low-strength stuff! On Snusdirect, we define “strong” nicotine pouches as falling within the 8-10 mg per pouch range.
77 Fresh Mint Medium boasts a refreshing taste combined with 10mg of nicotine per pouch, so it fits the bill. The pouches are slim.
Those who are a bit more adventurous and prepared to venture further out from the typical mint flavor could also consider some of 77’s flavor combinations, such as:
Moving things up a notch, extra strong pouches have 11-16 mg of nicotine.
Nico Lash Glacier X Mint pouches contain 12 mg of nicotine each, offering a comparable strength. They have a peppermint and menthol flavor profile to make the mouth tingle, formulated from the finest Swiss ingredients.
Another option is Killa Cold Mint. These are slim pouches, which contain 12.5 mg of nicotine each, along with a mouth-numbing menthol flavor and moist contents. Just like Siberia, Killa has a reputation for intensity (if you couldn’t guess based on the name).
Few brands can match Siberia when it comes to super-strength. But ICE just might come close.
ICE Reaper XL Super Strong contains 20 mg of nicotine per pouch, making it one of the most potent products we stock. Although the pouches contain mint, they’re far from ordinary, as they use one of the hottest chilis in the world to up the intensity. Plus, contents are moist and the pouches are large.
Finding a tobacco-free alternative to a tobacco-flavored product might sound tough, but don’t underestimate nicotine pouch manufacturers. Some innovative companies have found ways to mimic a similar taste profile without using tobacco as an ingredient, meaning there are various alternatives to Siberia’s original portions and its Black range.
Lungrens is one of the best in the game here. The brand was launched by British American Tobacco as a tobacco-free alternative to its snus products, and it can fulfil the same role for Siberia fans.
Top options include:
Both of these come in original full-bodied sizes.
It’s also possible to enjoy a tobacco-esque flavor without consuming any tobacco at all. There are more nicotine-free products than ever, and some of them emulate a traditional snus flavor.
For instance, Onico White Portion uses plants to create a flavor similar to tobacco, alongside hints of citrus, pepper, and bergamot.
Another option is Qvitt Original, which has undertones of citrus, green tea, and carrot for a distinctly snus flavor.
]]>This guide runs through the best substitutes for the entire collection, from All White Slim Portion to Full Charge. All these options are available on Snusdirect.
To find a suitable White Fox alternative, the first step is to break down exactly what makes this brand so great. Then, it’s possible to identify other options with similar characteristics.
So, what are these characteristics we speak of? The most important are:
All White Slim was almost always Snusdirect’s best-selling White Fox product, and it didn’t happen by chance. These pouches have developed a reputation for an intense minty sensation that tastes just like being in the icy mountains. With 12mg of nicotine per portion, the pouches are also high-strength.
The good news is there are various suitable substitutes:
Does twice the mint mean twice the fun? Double Mint Slim has just as much nicotine as All White Slim, but the flavor differs slightly, providing an icy yet refreshing experience.
VILD Kuling is another nicotine pouch that also promises a double dose of mint. It contains 8mg per pouch, slightly less than Double Mints 12mg. However, it may feel more intense due to the high moisture levels of the pouches.
For those who want to take the opportunity to seek a lower-strength alternative, VILD Bris has a very similar flavor but with just 5.6mg of nicotine per pouch. Could it be “the one”?
Full Charge has the honor of being the only item in the White Fox collection with large nicotine pouches. These portions also contain 16mg each and have White Fox’s trademark mint flavor, with a subtle sweetness layered in.
Lundgrens Rimfrost is another popular product that combines mintiness (in this case, eucalyptus) with large portions. It contains a little less nicotine, with 10mg per pouch — but that’s still a significant amount.
For those who want something stronger, head straight to the section below.
White Fox is known for its high strengths, but potency isn’t just about the nicotine contents — flavor can also play a big role. Peppered Mint has proven this by using black pepper to (literally) spice things up. The chili will set the mouth on fire, then the peppermint cools it down. Pouches contain 12mg of nicotine.
Luckily for pouch users, brands have cottoned on to the possibilities to offer unique sensations by combining spice with their usual flavors. This means there are a few potential alternatives to Peppered Mint.
For instance, ICE Reaper XL Super Strong fuses the flavor of refreshing mint with the famous Carolina Reaper chili, largely regarded as the world’s hottest pepper. Need we say more? It provides a whopping 20mg of nicotine per pouch, which is a lot more than Peppered Mint Slim.
White Fox Black is practically unique in the nicotine pouch world for mixing rose petals with a smoky tobacco flavor — all while remaining tobacco-free! The pouches contain 22.5 mg of nicotine, making them the strongest of the bunch.
Honestly, no product can quite match it. But there are a few nicotine pouches that emulate a tobacco flavor without using tobacco. One example is 77 Classic Tobacco Medium, which opts for a spicy edge. Pouches contain 10mg of nicotine each, which admittedly is a step down (but still strong by most peoples’ standards).
]]>This guide starts by outlining what makes VELO pouches so special, before delving into alternatives for various flavor profiles.
It’s no accident that VELO products are great — the pouches have been carefully formulated to ensure they’re just what people are looking for.
That can be explained through the following factors:
Bear in mind that the above only applies to European products, which are sold on Snusdirect.
In this guide, we’ll highlight products that match as many of the criteria above as possible. There’s no need to say goodbye forever. But why not try something new today?
Impartial to a bit of peppermint? Sucker for spearmint? Whatever the case, we have some suitable alternatives below.
Peppermint is one of VELO’s most popular flavor profiles. In fact, it’s so popular that the collection contains multiple options!
Mighty Peppermint 17mg is a super-strong slim pouch. For lovers of these high strengths, we recommend the following alternatives:
For those looking for alternatives to the less potent peppermint options, such as VELO Mighty Peppermint 14mg or 11mg, VELO Crispy Peppermint, or VELO Peppermint Storm, we suggest:
While some love the intensity and fieriness of peppermint, the sharpness of this mint isn’t for everyone. A common alternative is the gentler, sweeter taste of spearmint.
VELO offers both VELO Witty Spearmint Slim (6mg of nicotine per pouch), and VELO Spiffy Spearmint (4mg of nicotine per pouch).
While spearmint pouches tend to be less popular than their peppermint counterparts, they’re still popular enough to be offered by plenty of brands. A standout product is Übbs Spearmint Strong, nicotine pouches that contain 11mg of content each. The slim pouches are moist, just like VELO, so make for an ideal substitute.
VELO is well-known for offering countless fruity options. Below, we’ve highlighted alternatives to some of the most-loved options.
It would be fair to assume Lime Flame is a more unique option since it fuses the citrus taste of lime with a dose of spice. But fortunately, it’s not so unique that there are no alternatives on the market.
The products below make for fantastic substitutes:
Snusdirect sells a range of other citrus pouches that provide potential alternatives to products like Orange Spark.
One option is Helwit Orange. These pouches combine orange with a hint of mint, which creates a comparable sensation to the “tingling” effect of Orange Spark. Each pouch contains 4.5mg of nicotine.
VELO’s Groovy Grape is loved for its perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, and the pouches contain 10mg of nicotine each.
There’s no other pouch with a grape flavor with similar nicotine contents. However, for those who just can’t get enough of grapes, ICE Grape Super Strong is a potential alternative. It combines the juiciness of grapes with a dose of iciness, along with 15.5mg of nicotine per pouch — but bear in mind it’s one of the strongest we stock on Snusdirect, so only experienced pouch users should consider this one.
While Breezy Mango only has one fruit in its name, it isn’t all about mango. The product also uses the flavors of mandarin and passionfruit for a mixed tropical taste, along with 6mg of nicotine.
For those who want to take their exotic experience to the next level, consider on! Tropical Spice 6mg. It has a similar tropical taste profile, but combines this with chilli and other spices to create something a little different. Pouches contain 6 mg of nicotine each, just like Breezy Mango.
]]>This article explains how much caffeine these pouches contain and how many the average person can safely consume per day.
First of all, let’s clarify exactly what caffeine pouches are.
They’re a type of nicotine-free pouch designed for those who want a similar experience to nicotine pouches but without the nicotine. Not to be confused with coffee pouches, which boast a coffee flavor but don’t contain caffeine.
At first glance, there’s little difference between standard nicotine pouches and caffeine pouches. Both products look the same (pillow-like sachets) and are consumed in the same way (by placing the pouch under the upper lip).
They may even have the same flavors — many energy pouches have minty, sweet, or fruity taste profiles.
The only real difference is that nicotine pouches contain nicotine while caffeine pouches don’t, and caffeine pouches contain caffeine while nicotine pouches don’t. It’s that simple!
WAKEY pouches and Kickup pouches are two of the most popular brands we stock on Snusdirect.
The terms “caffeine pouches” and “energy pouches” are often used interchangeably. After all, caffeine is energizing, and caffeine is the best-known energizing substance.
However, they’re not always the same.
Some energy pouches may use other substances. For instance, ginseng is an energizing substance that doesn’t contain caffeine. Therefore, all caffeine pouches are energy pouches, but not every energy pouch is a caffeine pouch (although most are).
Another point of confusion is the difference between caffeine pouches and standard nicotine-free pouches.
In both cases, the products are free from nicotine and tobacco. However, nicotine-free is a broader category for any pouch free from nicotine — including those that don’t contain caffeine.
For instance, VELO Crispy Peppermint Zero is free from caffeine and nicotine.
The core ingredients in caffeine pouches are the same as those in nicotine pouches:
Some energy pouches contain caffeine extract, in which case you'll see “caffeine” on the ingredients list.
Other times, pouches use natural caffeine sources as the ingredient, such as black tea, green tea, or guarana. The use of tea is particularly common in products that try to emulate a “tobacco” taste and provide a tobacco-free snus option.
Just like nicotine pouches can contain vastly different amounts of nicotine, caffeine contents can vary significantly between energy pouches.
WAKEY pouches contain 50 mg of caffeine per portion, while the caffeine contents in Kickup energy pouches vary between products. Kickup Original has 12 mg of caffeine per pouch, while Kickup Strong has 14.4 mg of caffeine per sachet.
Wondering exactly how that fits into the picture of your overall caffeine intake? We’ll get to that next.
General guidelines suggest that the average person can have up to 400 mg of caffeine per day.
But bear in mind that we’re not all “the average person.”
People can have different tolerances to caffeine due to:
Therefore, for anyone who isn’t accustomed to consuming caffeine and is therefore unsure of their tolerance should keep their consumption lower.
At first, 400 mg of caffeine per day sounds like plenty — especially when opting for products with lower caffeine contents, such as Kickup pouches.
But don’t forget that caffeine pouches aren’t most peoples’ sole source of caffeine.
When hearing the word “caffeine,” coffee tends to be what springs to mind, and it’s certainly one of the primary sources.
But how much does it actually contain?
One espresso shot contains between roughly 50 mg of caffeine (though it can be anywhere between 30 mg and 60 mg).
Meanwhile, a drink like a cappuccino or a latte is likely to have between 100 mg and 200 mg of caffeine — and those opting for a large could find themselves consuming even more.
Instant coffee contains far less (typically under 30 mg).
Bear in mind that there’s significant variation between brands here — one coffee chain may serve drinks with double the caffeine of their competitor.
Another important point is that decaf coffee also contains a small amount of caffeine (between 2 mg and 10 mg per drink).
It would be easy enough to work out how much caffeine consumption if coffee was the only caffeine source. Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple.
Many other products contain caffeine:
As a result, products that use any of the above as ingredients (e.g., chocolate cake) may also contain a trace of caffeine.
Given how many foods and drinks contain caffeine and how difficult it is to accurately track consumption, it’s wise to keep an eye out for the side effects of consuming too much caffeine.
Since most people can have up to 400 mg of caffeine per day and some energy pouches contain 50 mg of caffeine, consuming five or fewer pouches each day is unlikely to cause issues. However, those who are already consuming high amounts of caffeine from other sources — such as coffee or chocolate — should be more cautious.
]]>The first answer to this article's question could be salt's role in the product and its production. Salt is seen as a preservative, mainly when snus was first created; it retains moisture and enhances flavors.
Salt, the most common being sodium chloride, is used in foods and has been used for centuries to preserve them. The same could be said for snus, especially when it was first created in the early 1800s and no other preservatives used today were available.
Salt works as a preservative because research shows that it minimizes the amount of free water. This means sodium and chloride ions react with water, so less water is available for microbial growth, reducing the germs and bugs growing in the tobacco.
The mechanism allowing salt to be a preservative is the same as its ability to retain moisture. The two go hand in hand. For those of you who use snus, a moist texture is crucial as it enables a better release of flavor and nicotine.
Imagine if the same amount of water were in snus but with no salt; then all that water would be free, promoting microbial growth. In turn, it’s hard to retain moisture without a preservative.
Another way salt is utilized in snus is through its ability to enhance flavor. Salt has been used in food for centuries, not only as a preservative but also to improve taste. It's used by chefs, people cooking at home, and everyone. For this reason, it’s used in snus to strengthen the rich tobacco notes or enhance the herbal tones accompanying it.
Another reason Swedish snus may remain salty is cultural. With centuries of snus consumption within Sweden and the use of salt to preserve, retain moisture, and enhance the flavor, users may have acclimatized to the salty taste and now enjoy it. That is how snus should taste, in their opinion.
Those not used to this cultural difference may try it and think it’s too salty, but this is where snuser opinion and preference come into play.
Some snus flavors are more popular than others, and their respective salty characters may change. Below are some more popular snus flavors and their changing saltiness levels. Of course, some flavors may be saltier than others, so this section is included to help those wanting to avoid these saltier flavors.
Tobacco-centric flavors let the brand's tobacco blend take center stage. They can be rich and smoked or bitter and leathery. It depends on the brand. However, every Swedish Snus brand, whether Göteborgs Rapé or Ettan, will have a salty character, some of which may be too present for some users.
However, a flavor profile renowned for its salty character is licorice and salmiak. It’s both sweet and salty, and the tobacco flavor runs throughout, meaning for those who like a salty flavor, this would be a fantastic addition to your rotation. One popular licorice snus is the Kapten licorice white portion.
Mint snus is another popular flavor among snusers due to its fresh and clean taste, which compliments tobacco characters harmoniously. With the more intense and cutting mint flavors, the saltiness isn’t at the forefront of the tasting experience, making this flavor a good option for those who do not want overly salty snus.
To summarise the points made above, there are several reasons why snus is salty, and there are flavors that navigate this character well. Below are critical points for you to take away from this article that may help give reason to and navigate the salty Swedish snus market.
However, those who do not enjoy the salty character should try mint snus and experiment with tobacco-centric snus, finding those that do not contain dominating salty notes. Moreover, avoid salmiak flavors, as these flavor profiles accentuate the salty tones.
]]>Nicotine pouches and snus are used by placing them against the gum under the upper lip, meaning nicotine is absorbed in the mouth, unlike vapes and cigarettes. But how does this work?
Nicotine is absorbed through the oral mucosa, and then into the bloodstream where it binds with receptors in the brain and adrenal glands. However, the nicotine doesn’t just jump from the pouch to the membrane of the gums, a vehicle is required. This transport system is our saliva, which will be explained below. It dissolves in the water and then leaves the pouch through our saliva, enabling contact with the oral mucosa.
There are three main factors when considering the speed of nicotine transfer. One is pouch moisture, the other is pH, and a more fundamental factor is the source.
Pouch Moisture. Nicotine is released when the pouch is moist. In turn, the more water the pouch contains, the less saliva is needed and the faster it will be released and absorbed into the bloodstream.
pH. pH affects nicotine as it determines whether it is protonated or unprotonated. The substance is a weak base with a pKa of 8, meaning at pH’s greater than 8 it is unprotonated, also called freebase nicotine. No matter the type, it is water-soluble. However, freebase nicotine readily crosses membranes and is absorbed much faster. In turn, products with a pH greater than 8 will ensure it is absorbed faster.
Source. The state of nicotine in a product will also affect absorption speed. Whether it is in the form of tobacco or salt, it will affect how it is extracted. Nicotine in a salt or resin is much more readily available than it is in tobacco, meaning products like nicotine pouches can deliver more at a quicker pace.
The rate at which the nicotine is absorbed will affect the product's strength. The more absorbed, the stronger the sensation and feeling. However, just because a product says it contains more nicotine, doesn’t necessarily mean it will “feel” stronger due to the factors above, especially when comparing nicotine pouches and snus which are discussed below. In turn, if you’re changing brands or product types, it’s better to be aware of this to begin with. There’s nothing worse than buying something a little too strong or not potent enough.
One major difference when comparing Snus vs Nicotine Pouches is the presence of tobacco. As you know snus contains tobacco and pouches do not and because the source of nicotine affects its absorption, there is a difference between these two products.
A study compared the amount of nicotine extracted from ZYN 6 mg and General 8 mg. It was found that 3.5 mg of nicotine was extracted from the possible 6 mg per pouch of ZYN (59%) compared to only 2.4 mg of the 8 mg available (32%) in the General snus.
Therefore, the results from this study may explain why many users experience strength differences when changing the products they use.
So, what should you do if you’re changing products and aren’t sure whether you should keep the same strength or go higher or lower than you usually would? In terms of nicotine pouches and snus, both have a different sensation due to how the nicotine is absorbed.
Pouches contain nicotine salt which is much more readily available to absorb, they also tend to be moist and the pH heightened to ensure optimal nicotine transfer. In turn, they tend to feel stronger and more intense in comparison to snus.
On the other hand, snus’ nicotine is in tobacco form which takes longer to extract, meaning the release isn’t as fast nor intense but more gradual, offering a more enjoyable and milder experience at the same strengths.
So when going from snus to nicotine pouches maybe go down a strength step and vice versa if going from pouches to snus. See what you think and whether you can notice the difference.
]]>The short story here is that US demand for the pouches is so high that production can’t keep up, resulting in a lack of supply until the manufacturer can expand its capacity. For the long story, keep reading this article.
Note: We don’t ship ZYN to the US. Those who are based in the US and want to know how the current situation will affect them can check out this guide to the ZYN shortage.
By most accounts, 2024 has been ZYN’s year. It has been the most popular nicotine pouch brand in the US for a while now, but 2024 took things to new heights.
Parent company Philip Morris International (PMI) sold 80% more cans in Q1 2024 than it managed in Q1 2023, representing an impressive increase.
So impressive in fact, that the demand reached a point where supply couldn’t keep up.
Around May, social media users across the US started to notice that their local shops were running out of ZYN. At first, the shortage only seemed to affect certain states, but it has since become a nationwide phenomenon.
Earlier in the year, Philip Morris had commented that it was experiencing tensions on the supply chain, although the firm declined to comment on the shortage specifically.
This situation only affects the US — we’ll explain why shortly.
While many US pouch users have been alarmed to see their favorite products suddenly replaced by empty shelves, the good news is that the shortage has a simple solution: increasing production.
PMI has confirmed plans to open up a new US ZYN factory in Aurora, Colorado. This will massively upscale its production.
It’s not an immediate fix, with regular production not set to begin until 2026. But PMI has also upped its manufacturing in Kentucky in the meantime by amending its production processes.
The company has sold far more cans this year than it did in 2023, showing its commitment to try and keep pace with demand.
Somewhat confusingly, the US ZYN shortage hit the US a couple of months after a fire took place at the ZYN factory in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Reportedly, the fire started at around 06:30 am and was extinguished by 8 am. Shortly after, Swedish Match stated there would be no risk of a shortage due to the fire, although it’s unclear exactly what happened or what damage was caused.
Most significantly, the current shortage only affects the US, but the Gothenburg factory only produces pouches for the non-US market.
There’s therefore no connection between the shortage and the factory fire.
As touched on already, ZYN products for the US market are not made in the same factory as those from the rest of the world.
The factory in Owensboro, Kentucky produces nicotine pouches solely for US customers, while Gothenburg handles production for the rest of the world.
Some might be concerned that the shortage could prompt PMI to switch up their operations and use Gothenburg to produce more pouches for the US. This would then have a knock-on effect on the European supply.
However, this is very unlikely to happen. ZYN nicotine pouches sold outside the US might share a brand name with those available in the states. But they don’t even have the same flavors, and they differ in other crucial elements (such as moisture content and can design).
Therefore, the factories will remain separate, and non-Americans don’t need to worry about the shortage affecting them.
There might be a shortage, but PMI is still producing impressive quantities of ZYN. In fact, it expects to sell 580 million cans in 2024!
However, most people have been forced to change their consumption habits somewhat, whether that means buying from somewhere different, opting for a new flavor, or choosing a different brand entirely.
Many people in the US have found their local shops no longer stock their flavor of choice, and that only the less popular taste profiles are available. In some cases, there are no ZYNs available at all for them. This varies between states.
Some customers are turning to online retailers to get a more consistent supply, and most have imposed temporary purchasing restrictions so they can spread out limited stock between all customers.
Philip Morris has stopped online sales through its own site, but this is for issues unrelated to the shortage.
]]>Based in the US and want to take part? Find out how in this guide to ZYN Rewards.
However, those elsewhere in the world aren’t so fortunate, as the program is restricted to cans from the United States. As a result, Snusdirect purchases aren’t eligible. Regardless, this article will run through everything you know about the program, plus ways to save money on pouch purchases.
US and European ZYN nicotine pouches are manufactured in different locations, with the former made in a factory in Kentucky and the latter made in a European plant.
There are also various differences between the two. For instance, European cans have a pouch in their lids to store used pouches, while American cans don’t. They even taste different!
Don’t be
fooled by the name and packaging — they’re essentially different products,
which is why Snusdirect products aren’t part of the program.
Every ZYN purchased in the US comes with a QR code on its label, which customers can exchange for points online. After accumulating enough points, users can exchange them for various prizes and gifts.
Every product and flavor by the brand has a ZYN Rewards discount code, regardless of the retailer. However, as mentioned, the program applies only in the US.
Participation involves the following steps:
It’s also possible to earn additional points by referring others or participating in giveaways and promotions.
Curious about what exactly the ZYN Rewards items are? There’s something for everyone, with prizes varying from basic merchandise to expensive electronics.
We’ve compiled an extensive ZYN rewards list below, although this isn’t inclusive of every single prize:
(These numbers are subject to change but were last updated on 6th August 2024).
Considering participants in the program can scan up to 60 cans a month and each can offers 15 points, it’s possible to earn up to 900 points per month (excluding opportunities to earn additional points).
It would therefore take around a year to redeem points for one of the more expensive items, even for the most loyal consumers.
Points don’t expire as long as an accountholder continues to add more codes. But if they stop adding more, points will expire after six months.
It’s unclear whether codes on labels need to be scanned within a certain timeframe, but many users have reported successfully redeeming points from cans they purchased years ago.
Out of luck for participating in the ZYN rewards program due to location? There are many more ways to get the best value possible from purchases.
Here at Snusdirect, we don’t want our customers to miss out, so we offer our very own Snusdirect Rewards program. This applies to all cans of nicotine pouches, snus, and nicotine-free snus. However, candy and snus mix packs are excluded.
One of the best parts of the program is that participants aren’t restricted to a single brand. Every product bought on Snusdirect is included, from Siberia to VELO.
Each can bought on our site is worth one point, while a roll (consisting of ten pouches) is ten points. 50 points unlocks a gift like candy or a can. Or, after 100 points, customers can receive an entire roll.
In other words, buy 10 rolls, get one roll free.
To join the rewards program, the first step is to create an account with us.
Snusdirect also runs promotions to help customers save money. We regularly give discounts on certain products, which can be found on our Special Offers page. For instance, buy 10 cans and get one for free.
Sometimes, we also send out personalized discount codes.
Plus, there’s no need to choose between Snusdirect Rewards and special offers. All products are eligible, even when bought at a discount, so combining them is a great way to maximize savings.
The ZYN Rewards program offers a fantastic opportunity for US customers to earn points on their favorite products and redeem them for various prizes.
But while the program isn’t available on Snusdirect or outside the US, it’s far from the only way to get the most out of nicotine pouch purchases. On Snusdirect, we offer various promotions — and they’re not limited to a single brand.
